چکیده

This paper compares the polarization losses associated with the various diffusion-reaction-conduction processes in molten carbonate cathodes. The comparisons are made by estimating each type of loss in terms of component electrochemical potentials in joules/mole; this allows diffusive, charge-transfer, and ohmic losses to all be put on equal footing. For characteristic parameter values, diffusion in both the gas and electrolyte phases and conduction in the electrolyte account for similar polarization losses; charge-transfer and conduction in the solid electrode account for significantly smaller losses. These results tend to support and unify the previous work of numerous investigators. Also molecular-channel interactions are found not to contribute significantly to the polarization loss. © 2001 The Electrochemical Society. @DOI: 10.1149/1.1377896# All rights reserved.

Performance of La0.8Sr0.2CoO3 coated NiO as cathodes for molten carbonate fuel cells

La0.8Sr0.2CoO3 was coated on NiO (LSC–NiO) cathodes using a sol–gel method. Dissolution studies in molten Li2CO3 and K2CO3 (62:38 mol%) at 650 8C showed lower Ni dissolution than that of the conventional nickel oxide cathode. Impedance analysis showed that the behavior of the developed cathode is similar to that of nickel oxide. The LSC coated Ni cathode has an over potential of 109 mVat an app...
